[origin: EP1403045A2] The process involves obtaining an image to be printed and determining a position and/or shape of a registration mark in the image to be printed using the prepress data. The position data of the mark or of mark fields (1a, 1b) are used to determine the point in time of the detection of the mark by a sensor. The position errors of the mark and/or of a mark field and/or of a white edge (3) are determined. An Independent claim is also included for a device for determining the position and/or shape of mark on a web to be printed on.
