[origin: WO03002492A1] The invention relates to a method for producing methacrolein from isobutane, which is characterized by subjecting the isobutane to a partial catalytic dehydration in the gas phase and feeding the resulting gas mixture containing isobutene to an oxidation zone in which the isobutene is oxidized to methacrolein in the gas phase by heterogeneous catalysis. Molecular oxygen is used as the oxygen source and is added together with molecular nitrogen.
