[origin: WO03003821A1] A replaceable marking element for mounting in a hammer for the tattoo-marking of an animal has needles (1), which are arranged in a predetermined pattern. The needles have in their side/sides one or more grooves (2, 9), which run in the longitudinal direction of the needles. This makes it easier for the ink to flow into the indentations formed by the needles by the tattooing blow against a pig, and the ink can better fill up the indentations, especially when the grooves are extended all the way to the needle part, which narrows towards the point.
