[origin: WO0179081A1] The invention relates to a locking mechanism for containers, especially for transport boxes, by which means any number of containers stored underneath each other can be locked together simultaneously. As a result, containers arranged underneath each other no longer need to be locked manually. The container spreader not only takes hold of the (top) container but can also lock said container to or unlock said container from containers located underneath it, in one working operation. This enables a plurality of containers to be transported simultaneously by a crane. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, adjacent containers can also be locked together at the same time as containers located underneath each other are locked.
