[origin: WO03006511A2] The invention relates to a novel method of obtaining an aqueous dispersion of hydrophobic polymers which are dispersed in the form of particles. The particles have an average diameter that is less than 100 nm and said particles are stabilised jointly by means of a macromolecular surfactant based on imidised maleic styrene/anhydride copolymer with a low mass and an anionic surfactant. The invention also relates to the use of one such dispersion in paper processing and sizing and in relation to coatings for substrates as diverse as wood, metals, glass, construction materials, textiles, leather, plastics, etc.
