Abstract (en)
[origin: WO0182552A2] A hybrid electronic mail and electronic parcel delivery system delivers digital information between computer systems over a network. The hybrid system generally includes a user interface, an electronic parcel delivery system and an electronic mail system. The user interface may enable generation of electronic mail messages and electronic parcels, and/or perception of received electronic mail messages and electronic parcels. The electronic parcel delivery system may be operable to direct to an intended recipient an electronic parcel generated according to an electronic parcel protocol using the user interface. The electronic parcel delivery system may also be operable to receive electronic parcels generated according to an electronic parcel protocol and to make received electronic parcels perceivable using the user interface. The electronic mail system may be operable to direct to an intended recipient an electronic mail message generated according to an electronic mail protocol using the user interface. The electronic mail system may also be operable to receive electronic mail messages generated based on an electronic mail protocol and to make received electronic mail messages perceivable using the user interface. The parcel protocol and the electronic mail protocol differ, generally as to maximum size. The hybrid system may be installed as a standalone unit, or may be installed by modifying an existing electonic mail system.
