Abstract (en)

A method of reducing the negative effects of ash accumulation in a diesel fuel combustion system involves supplying a diesel fuel comprising an additive (preferably manganese compound) to the system (where the system comprises a diesel particulate filter), combusting the fuel to produce at least one byproduct comprising the manganese compound which is complexed with the combustion byproduct. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method of reducing engine backpressure after filter regeneration; and (2) a method of scavenging combustion by product poisons.
