[origin: WO03010340A1] The invention relates to a degreasing agent for treating skins, fur, limed skins and other intermediate products in leather and fur production, and for treating wool or related protein substances, based on non-ionic surfactants of the alcohol alcoxylate type. Alcohol alcoxylates are used which are obtained by reaction with at least one alcohol ROH with n mols of at least one alkylene oxide per mol of alcohol ROH, wherein R represents an alkyl radical containing between 5 and 30 carbon atoms, and having a main chain which contains between 4 and 29 carbon atoms and is branched in the centre thereof with at least one C1 - C10 alkyl radical; the alkylene oxide comprises between 2 and 6 carbon atoms; and n represents a whole number between 1 and 100. The invention also relates to a method for degreasing skins, fur, limed skins and other intermediate products in leather and fur production, and for treating wool or related protein substances, a degreasing agent according to the present invention being used. The invention further relates to the use of said degreasing agent.
