[origin: EP1413398A2] A rapid acting clamp, for clamping a workpiece to a workbench, has a pair of parallel operating levers topped by a handgrip and linked to a clamping element by a linkage. The clamp includes a ratchet and a spring loaded locking lever which automatically locks the ratchet in the clamp locking setting. The ratchet is released by a simple radial pull on the handgrip. This provides a single handed operation of the clamp. The ratchet arm is pivot mounted between the two operating arms with one end and is connected to the clamping element with the other end.
