Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1413416A2] An arrangement for radiation hardening components (3) e.g. using UV or electrons, comprises a radiation apparatus (2) for delivering radiation, a unit for creating an inert gas atmosphere over the radiation region (5) and an inert gas supply line (8) and nozzle (11). An arrangement for radiation hardening components (3) e.g. using UV or electrons, comprises a radiation apparatus (2) for delivering radiation, a unit for creating an inert gas atmosphere over the radiation region (5) and an inert gas supply line (8) and nozzle (11). The inert gas supply line has a cooling unit and at least one outlet opening (7) is used for warmed gas. The nozzle chamber has an inner wall and an outer wall and guide elements (13) for directing the inert gas stream. The inert gas line has an integral heat exchanger which can warm the gas using heat from the radiation apparatus. A control system (18) is used to regulate gas temperature and/or volume flow in the inert gas supply and/or a cooling gas supply. The control system utilizes parameters such as the radiation apparatus temperature or radiation area residual oxygen.
