[origin: WO03013763A1] The invention relates to a method for producing flat and/or elongated products, from for example, thin slabs, thick slabs, billets, blooms, preliminary support sections, or similar, in a production system, by means of a continuous casting installation. Said installation comprises a mould (11), a strand guide (1) with a drawing and straightening machine (2), a cooling section (4) and a separation device (3) for the strand (6), in addition to a compensating furnace or pre-heating furnace (5) that is located downstream. To improve the surface of steel strands, the cooling section (4) is positioned downstream behind the separation device (3), preferably in the immediate vicinity of the compensating furnace or pre-heating furnace (5).
