The adjustable step ladder has two uprights (2) connected by rungs (3). A counter strut (4) is hinged to the uprights and is adjustable in length. The counter strut has a locking brace (5) adjacent to its top to retain the uprights and counter strut in their relative positions. The counter strut can be telescopic.
