[origin: WO03013776A1] The invention relates to a short-cycle arc-welding system (10) and a corresponding method for welding elements (32), such as e.g. metal bolts (32) to components (34) such as e.g. sheet metal (34). Said system comprises a robot (12), which has at least one arm (16) that can be displaced on at least two co-ordinate axes (x, y, z), a welding head base (20), which is fixed to the robot arm (16), a welding head (22), which is displaceably mounted on said welding head base (20) and is equipped with a retaining device (30) for retaining an element and a lifting device (36) for setting and re-positioning the retaining device (30) in relation to the welding head (22) and a measuring system (44, 46) for determining the relative position between a component (34) and an element (32) that is to be welded to the component (34). The measuring system (44, 46) has a control device (46), which controls the lifting device (36) in such a way that the element (32) is displaced towards the component (34) until it makes contact with the component (34) in order to determine the relative position.
