[origin: WO03016123A1] The invention relates to a lighting device, especially for bicycles, said device being characterized in that it is configured as handlebar plugs with integrated lighting. The lighting device consists of at least one base body (4) that can be inserted and fixed on the ends of the handlebar (1) in the base body of the handlebar (2) and a lighting cap (5) projecting beyond the end of the handlebar (1). An electric energy source (6) is arranged in the base body (4), said source supplying electric energy to the illuminant (11) arranged in the lighting cap (5). The outer points of the bicycle, i.e. the ends of the handlebar, are illuminated by the lighting device, thereby visibly indicating the actual width of the bicycle and the direction of travel to other road users. The lighting situation in bicycles is thereby effectively improved. Furthermore, operability of the lighting device can be continuously checked by the driver, whereby safety risks as a result of lighting failure can be immediately identified.
