Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03008130A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for transporting a dummy bar (1) into a continuous casting mould (3) for liquid metal. A conjoined casting strand is transported out of the casting mould by means of a back-up roll stand (4). According to the invention, the cumbersome system which uses dummy bars with a dummy bar head (6) is replaced by a more simple system, whereby a dummy bar head (6) is moved into the continuous casting mould (3) in overlapping intervals by means of at least one self-driven mechanism which is supported respectively by components of the back-up roll stand or accessory devices. Said dummy bar head (6) is continuously transported by opposing movements out of the oscillating continuous casting mould (3) between pairs of non-driven back-up rolls by means of the self-driven mechanism.
