[origin: GB2378997A] An apparatus for freeing of seized valves is positioned over a valve stem 10 and comprises a collar 23 having fingers 24, a further collar 26 having fingers 28 engages fingers 24 and causes fingers 24 with teeth 30 to flex and grip boss 12, a partially threaded 32 shank 20 formed into an impact head 22 is connected to a device for turning shank 20, and a threaded recess 34 connects a vibrating device which may be a powered hammer to impart vibration in both directions of the stem 10 longitudinal axis. Another embodiment (fig 3) comprises a drive plate, a guide plate which retains an impact head, a boss for attaching a combined vibration and torque device and retainer plates secured by pins which with wedge members and jaws engage stem boss 12. Another embodiment (fig 6) comprises a cap attached to stem boss 12 and has apertures in opposed walls which align with an aperture drilled through the stem boss 12 for a bolt to secure the cap and stem 10 together. Another embodiment (fig 10) comprises a wheel secured by a nut to stem boss 12, a shank attached to the nut and adapted for attaching a torque and vibration device, and a cross piece having arms which engage spokes of the wheel.
