[origin: WO03027486A1] The invention relates to a fuel injection system (1) for an internal combustion engine. Said system comprises a fuel injection valve (2) for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber, said valve being inserted in a receiving borehole (3) of a cylinder head (4) of the internal combustion engine and being sealed from the combustion chamber by means of a seal (13). A flame-protective shield (18; 20) is arranged in the receiving borehole (3) on the injection side of the fuel injection valve (2), said shield shielding injection openings (21) of the fuel injection valve (2) from the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. The flame-protective shield (18; 20) is arranged on an injection-side end (23) of the fuel injection valve (2) or on a wall (17) of the receiving borehole (3) of the cylinder head (4) on the injection side of the fuel injection valve (2).
