Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03019754A1] The invention relates to an electric motor, preferably a linear motor, comprising a cooling system, which permits the dissipation of heat from the primary part (1) of the electric motor in a simple but effective manner. To achieve this, the iron core (2) and the coils (3) are surrounded by a potting compound (13) that stabilises one of the coils (3) and the electric supply lines (15) of the latter in such a way, that channels (9a) are formed in the gaps (4) of the iron core (2). A cooling medium, preferably air, flows from a first flow chamber (7) through the channels (9a) into a second flow chamber (8). The direct contact with the iron core (2), potting compound (13) and optionally with areas of the coils (3) that are not filled with compound produces an effective cooling action, without having to forego the advantages of stability provided by a cast primary part.
