[origin: WO03026967A1] The invention relates to a device (10) for tensioning and sealing tightening straps consisting of plastic, which act as tightening straps (11) for packaged units. According to the invention, in said device, the superposed strap ends (13,14) are received by a strap channel (18), which is essentially open on one longitudinal external side (15) and on both front faces. The strap channel has a strap edge guide (30) on its longitudinal internal face (27) for the interior edges of the tightening strap. A tensioning device (21) is located in the front region of the device and a sealing device (23) is located in the rear region. To compensate the forces acting on the upper strap end (13) in an external direction as a result of the uneven deformations of said upper strap end (13) during the tensioning operation, caused by the tensioning roller (20) that is mounted on the tensioning device in a floating manner, the strap edge guide (30) is positioned obliquely in relation to the tensioning direction (22) of the tensioning roller and projects further into the strap channel in the vicinity of the strap sealing device than in the region of the tensioning device.
