The output switch (14) has at least two switch positions. The safety switch device also comprises a control unit (12) which controls the switch position of the output switch (14). Means (16, 24,) are also provided so that the control unit (12) monitors an actual switch position of the output switch (14). The invention is characterized in that said means contain an HF generator (16) for producing an HF test signal (70) and a coupling circuit (68) used to transmit the test signal (70) to the output switch (14).
