Abstract (en)
[origin: WO03032328A1] A method for the detoxification of an object made from ceramic, graphite and/or carbon contaminated with at least one toxin in particular a radiotoxin is disclosed. According to the invention, partial decontamination of the object is achieved by heating, simultaneously trapping the removed portion of the toxic agents and then the decontaminated object and the trapped toxic agents are separately subjected to further decontamination steps. The object is comminuted before, during or after the thermal treatment to give a granulate and cast with an encapsulating material such that the granulate is provided with a ceramic coating. After cooling the mixture of encapsulating agent and granulate a solid, non-combustible package is formed which can be embodied such as to be resistant to leaching and physical wear. The package can also be formed as a container for dangerous materials or as packaging for contaminated waste or for filling cavities with high long term and bleeding resistance.
