[origin: WO03031198A1] The invention relates to an image element (2), especially a security element, which is applied to a base and is used to identify packagings (1), goods and means of payment. The aim of the invention is to create an image element (2), especially a security element, which is easier to recognise for the end consumer and can be identified as an authentic item. To this end, the image element is provided with a combination of a printed image (4) and a DOVD (diffractive optically variable device) element (5). A common pattern (3) is obtained by at least partially applying the printed image (4) and the DOVD element (5) next to or over each other, the printed image (4) and the DOVD element (5) respectively comprising the partial pattern constituting the common pattern (3).
