[origin: WO03018968A1] The invention relates to a device for controlling gas exchange valves disposed in an internal combustion engine, respectively comprising a hydraulic valve regulator (11) associated with a gas exchange valve, a control piston (13) acting upon the gas exchange valve (10) and two hydraulic working chambers (121, 122) defined by the control piston (13). The first working chamber (121) impinging upon the gas exchange valve (10) in the closing direction thereof is filled with a constantly pressurised fluid and the second working chamber (122) impinging upon the gas exchange valve (10) in the opening direction thereof can be alternatively filled and discharged with a continuously pressurised fluid by means of a first and second electrical control valve (24, 25 esp. 26, 27). The second control valves, preferably combined to form a valve unit (40) in order to reduce costs and controlled by a common electrical control signal for a pair of valve regulators (11) which actuate two gas exchange valves which are used as inlet or outlet valves in an internal combustion engine.
