[origin: DE10149506A1] The oscillatory piston drive has a drive magnet (11) between two sections (3,4) of the vacuum pump piston (2), displaced within an annular space (12) between the corresponding cylinder sections (8,9), aligned with a central yoke fitted between outer yoke sections (17,18), each having an associated electromagnetic coil (15,16). The annular space is peripherally defined by a split sleeve (34) of a ferromagnetic material. An Independent claim for an operating method for an oscillatory piston drive is also included.
