[origin: DE10149475A1] The method involves using a torque model of the internal combustion engine to compute at least one actual parameter and/or at least one control parameter derived from a demand value. A relationship representing the dependency of a combustion concentration point, corresponding to the crankshaft angle at which a defined fraction of combustion energy is converted, to the ignition angle, determines the actual and/or control parameters. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) an apparatus for controlling an internal combustion engine, (ii) computer program for controlling an internal combustion engine; and (iii) computer program product for controlling an IC engine.
