[origin: EP1437691A1] The vending machine examines the patterns of various coins fed into the coin slot. It has electronic equipment which performs a variety of tasks, including scanning the edge of the coin and comparing the received picture with one or more stored pictures. Three-color scanned pictures of embossed patterns are produced and may be used to identify the type and country of origin of the coins.
