Abstract (en)
A ground fault detection system is provided where one current sensor is used to calibrate a second sensor in order to provide automatic zeroing of the difference measurement. The calibration is done gradually in order to differentiate between sensor drift and a transition in current due to a differential fault.
The system has a detector (30) to compare measurements from a current sensor (14) and an interpole winding (8) when there is no ground fault condition. The current flow to a load (12) and from a rotating armature (4) is compared on the basis of the derived relationship between the measurements. The armature is disconnected or de-energized if the currents differ by more than a predetermined value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an aircraft including ground fault protection system; (b) a method of providing ground fault protection.
