[origin: DE10150286A1] Bisphosphinites (I) are new. Bisphosphinites of formula (Ar)2P-O-Q-O-O(Ar)2 (I) are new; Ar = phenyl substituted with 0-2 of F, Cl or CF3; Q = a group of formula (i)-(iii). Independent claims are also included for: (1) transition metal complexes of (I); (2) production of transition metal complexes of (I) by reacting a transition metal or transition metal compound with (I); (3) addition of hydrogen cyanide to an olefinic double bond in the presence of a catalyst which is a complex as above; (4) isomerization of organic nitriles in the presence of a catalyst which is a complex as above. R<1>, R<2>, R<4> = H, 1-8C alkyl, 2-8C alkenyl or 1-8C alkoxy, but not all H; R<3> = H or Me.
