Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03039430A1] The invention relates to a walking aid, also called a rollator, comprising a pivotal front frame and serving as a walking aid for older or handicapped people. When using a prior art walking aid to overcome an obstacle, e.g. a curb, it is necessary to lift the walking aid and carry it over the obstacle. The aim of the invention is to provide a walking aid that makes it easier to overcome obstacles while providing assistance. To this end, the invention provides a walking aid comprising a pivotal front frame. When the front wheels (6) of the walking aid are brought against an obstacle (5), the front wheels (6) block and the front frame (3) inwardly pivots in the pivot (9) counter to the direction of walking and toward the rear frame (4) while compressing one or more spring elements (10). The energy stored in the spring elements acts in the opposite direction to the inward pivoting and presses the front frame (3) back in the direction of walking when the walking aid is pulled back using the handle (2) thereby releasing the front wheels over the obstacle. The invention is suited for walking aids.
