The monitoring device has at least one pivotable image-generating sensor for transmitting image data. The sensor is pivotable to enable continuous monitoring of a target region or area and a software-parameterised detection and control unit (1) is provided for following objects moving in the target region or target area. A signaling device is provided. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a method of monitoring regions/areas with an inventive device.

Bei einer Überwachungsvorrichtung (1) mit wenigstens einem bildgebenden Sensor (2) zur Übertragung von Bilddaten ist der wenigstens eine bildgebende Sensor (2) schwenkbar ausgebildet. Dabei ist kontinuierlich ein Zielgebiet/Zielbereich überwachbar. Eine softwareparametrisierte Erkennungs- und Steuereinheit (1') und eine Meldeeinrichtung sind zur Verfolgung von sich im Zielgebiet/Zielbereich bewegenden Objekten vorgesehen. <IMAGE>
