[origin: WO03002206A1] The aim of the invention is to provide a fire protection and fire extinction system for a water-based domestic appliance that initiates measures for the domestic appliance for protecting it from further damage as well as for preventing the risk of fire and for extinguishing a fire that has broken out already at the beginning of a malfunction that involves a potential fire risk. To achieve this aim, the fire protection and fire extinction system for water-based domestic appliances (1) comprises at least one gas sensor (2) with a gas sensor circuit and at least one water spray system. The at least one gas sensor (2) produces, as of a certain amount of a reference gas within the domestic appliance (1), a signal causing the power supply of the domestic appliance to be switched off and activating the at least one water spray system to extinguish the fire.
