[origin: EP1443477A1] Method for monitoring a group of mobile objects by means of a number of terminals that receive electromagnetic signals from the objects and remain in direct functional contact with them, whereby: each signal has an identifier that identifies an object and or an object group; the identifiers are stored in terminal inventory lists; terminals assign objects to groups based on the received signals. A signal characteristic, e.g. signal strength, is monitored so that a user can be alerted as soon as an object goes outside a defined range. An independent claim is also included for a system for implementation of the inventive method.
