Abstract (en)
Described herein is a method for forming a passivation layer on an article having at least one tin-plated surface, comprising the step of subjecting the tin-plated surface to electrochemical oxidation for forming thereon a layer of tin dioxide in crystalline form of the type of natural cassiterite. Oxidation takes place in an electrolytic solution preferably comprising at least one compound chosen in the group constituted by salts of the gluconic acids, salts of citric acid, and salts of boric acid. Preferably, the article is made of copper and coated with a layer of tin obtained via hot tin-plating or electrolytic deposition.
