Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1445360A2] In preparation to automatic piecing of the end (E) of yarn (F) from a package (S) to a rotor spinning unit (10), a loop of yarn (G) is formed between assisting roller pairs (20, 21) by reversing rotation and is held pneumatically. At the moment of piecing the lower roller pair (20) releases the yarn and the loop (G) provides a length of yarn that is drawn rapidly into the spinning unit. An independent claim is also included for a piecing arrangement, e.g. an automatic travelling service unit (2) with two pairs of assisting rollers (20, 21) and a storage device (23) located between them. The device (23) is preferably a pneumatic suction tube, but can be mechanical, e.g. a dancer arm, or electro-mechanical. The sequence of roller (20, 21) and suction valve (40) operation is under the control of a computer (3) according to the required process conditions.
