Abstract (en)
[origin: WO03043958A1] The invention relates to a method for the production of vinyl-arenes, -heteroarenes and 1,3-dienes by Heck olefination of carboxylate esters, thioesters or amides with olefins and the elimination of carbon monoxide, in the presence of a transition metal catalyst. The carboxylate derivatives can be optionally applied in isolated form or generated in the reaction mixture from carboxylic acids. Said method permits the simple preparation of a number of valuable olefins from easily produced and handled carboxylate derivatives. The alcohols, thiols or amines produced as by-products can be converted again into carboxylate esters, thioesters or amides, by conventional methods with carboxylic acids and thus recycled.
