[origin: DE10305954B3] Electromagnets (16a,b) are fastened to the outside of the cylinder (1), a short distance from the end caps (5a,b). The piston (2) has seals (3a,b) at either end, and has a piston rod (6) passing through a guide bush (8). Coil springs (11a,b) are attached to the ends of the piston and hold ring-shaped mechanical contact elements (10a,b) which can engage the end caps. Each spring can brake the motion of the piston as it is compressed from its working position (A) to its fully compressed position (G). Permanent magnets (15a,b) surround the springs and interact with the electromagnets.
