[origin: WO03043449A1] When manufacturing filter cigarettes (25), a device (filter placement machine) is used that is comprised of a main drum (10) and of a number of additional assigned drums. The elements of the filter cigarettes (25), namely the tobacco stock (15) or partial stocks (16, 17), filter pieces (21), cigarette units (23), and the filter cigarettes (25) manufactured from these elements are conveyed through the main drum (10) with the exception that partial stocks (16, 17) with an inserted filter piece that are displaced at a distance from one another are conveyed out of the main drum (10) in order to apply a covering paper (22) and are joined to one another whereupon these now one-piece cigarette units (23) are fed back to the main drum (10).
