[origin: DE10158264C1] According to the invention, the components of the prototype chassis are precisely assembled in a first cage-like locking tacking station and tacked together through openings in the cage. In a subsequent welding station the tacked sheet pieces of the chassis, only supported on the underside thereof, but otherwise freely accessible from all sides, are fully welded together. By means of the above separation, prototype production can be achieved in an efficient and ergonomic manner. As far as possible the individual parts and system components of the production unit are embodied as module elements normalized to conform to the system, which as a result of a grid of plug and connector openings can be rapidly and nonetheless precisely assembled in various configurations and universally, in other words type-flexibly converted.
