Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03047732A1] The invention relates to a method and system for regenerating, particularly for desulfating, storage-type catalytic converters (1) during the purification of exhaust gases produced by internal combustion engines (12). To this end, the invention provides that during the regeneration phase, a control device (11) is used to control the combustion firstly inside the engine in order to lower the air ratio lambda in the exhaust gas to a first value lambda 1. Afterwards, a supply device (5, 6) for supplying the reducing agent is subsequently controlled by the control device (11) in order to set the air ratio lambda at a second lower value lambda 2 < 1. The invention ensures that the temperatures occurring on the entry side (3) of the storage-type catalytic converter (1) are sufficient for carrying out an efficient desulfation without damaging the storage-type catalytic converter (1).
