[origin: WO03040973A1] The invention relates to a method for monitoring flows of goods, according to which the flow of items is monitored by way of a distribution network that comprises item positions (P1, P2,...) and junctions interlinking said item positions. The movements of every item are recorded in a data base (2). Event numbers are established for every item which document how often the item passes a certain junction or arrives at a determined item position. The event numbers are checked for defined criteria and a warning is issued once the criteria are not fulfilled. The inventive method allows, depending on the criteria, the localization of gray market activities, inefficiencies or defective items.
