[origin: WO03049937A1] The present invention is directed to a single-use, disposable absorbent laminate 10 containing one or more layers 12, 22 of hydrophilic meltspun material bonded to a breathable film 14. The meltspun fabric layer 12, 22 may include at least one spunbonded fabric, meltblown fabric or other nonwoven fabric that is made hydrophilic prior to bonding to the film 14. The filaments or microfibers of the spunbonded or meltblown fabrics may contain a hydrophilic additive in or on the filaments or microfibers. The film 14 of the surgical drape remains breathable while enabling the laminate to resist penetration by liquids and viruses.
