Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2377682A] A bicycle rack (101) comprises a base (103) supporting the wheels of a bicycle (102), a front wheel support member (106) is adapted to engage the front tyre at a height above the artificial line (X-X) through the front and rear wheel axes; a rear wheel support member (111) is provided on a pivot arm (110) and engages the rear wheel tyre below said artificial line, an arm locking means (112 - 114) locks the arm relative to the base preventing movement. The base is preferably a U-shaped elongate channel and the front wheel support member may be curved to receive an arc of the front wheel. The arm locking means may comprise a ratchet (112) and pawl (113) mechanism and a device operable to prevent the pawl being disengaged from the ratchet, said device may have a solenoid actuator, key operated or coin-freed mechanism. In one embodiment the front channel section is pivoted about a point such that when the weight of the front wheel is applied the channel section pivots causing a rear portion of the section to be raised engaging it with the rear wheel. Ideally a number of bicycle racks may be provided on a bus trailer with means for connecting each rack to a remote control device within the bus.
