[origin: EP1454746A1] Printer has line scan camera [2] to monitor printed labels for defects in printing, tears or oil drops on paper etc. Ink jet, laser or number print head [8] coupled to controller [4] marks label at location of defect, so label will be discarded in later process step. Link to signal generator [9] causes line scan camera [2] to be activated to monitor print on sheet.
