[origin: EP1454866A2] An elevator cabin (12) rises and falls within an elevator shaft (10) powered by a motor (14) that is coupled via a switch (24) operated electrical safety circuit (22) to a control unit (26). The control unit incorporates a micro-controller (28) that, in an emergency, is able to facilitate continued movement of the cabin if it (28) determines that the safety switch (24) is open.
