Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03047716A1] The invention concerns a method for extracting iodine from a first aqueous acid solution, which consists in contacting said first aqueous solution with an organic phase comprising an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of: compounds of formula (I), wherein: n is an integer ranging from 4 to 8, hexane, hexylbenzene, 1,3-diisopropylbenzene; and mixtures thereof, so as to transfer the iodine from the first aqueous solution into said organic phase. Said method may comprise a step for re-extraction of the iodine from the organic phase into a second aqueous solution. In that case, a microporous membrane, impregnated in the organic phase, can be used, said membrane ensuring separation between the first aqueous phase and the second aqueous phase. The invention is applicable to radioactive iodine extraction in spent fuel reprocessing.
