Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03054270A1] A dual density mineral fibre batt has an upper layer having a density of 100 to 300kg/m3 intermeshed with a lower layer having a lower density, and wherein each layer is formed of a bonded non-woven mineral fibre network the fibre orientation of which has a Tau value determined by Fourier Transformation of scanned images of a thickness cross section X of below 5. Dual density batts may be made by dividing a non-woven web into upper and lower subwebs and subjecting the upper sub-web to thickness compression and lengthwise compression greater than is required to compensate for the thickness compression, and then subjecting the upper sub-web to lengthwise stretching and/or the lower sub-web to lengthwise compression and rejoining the sub-webs and curing the resultant batt.
