Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03052496A2] The invention concerns a device for controlling polarization of a signal carried in the form of a light beam. The invention is characterized in that said device comprises: a cell consisting of two substantially mutually parallel support plates and between which is confined a content comprising a polymer wherein are dispersed liquid crystal droplets; means for applying to at least part of the cell content, an electric field substantially perpendicular to the light beam propagation direction such that, depending on whether the electric field is applied or not, at least part of the cell content constitutes a birefringent or isotropic medium respectively.
