[origin: EP1460025A1] A cable balancing hoist has a suspended housing enclosing a threaded spindle, a hydraulic piston and a spindle nut. The housing further has a cable drum which runs through a helical groove in the drum outer surface. The cable emerges from the drum at a fixed point. The cable drum is fixed and rotates with respect to the piston. The drum has two roughly parallel cable grooves (R1, R2). The cables emerge from two holes in the drum (A1, A2) which are separated by a given distance,.
