Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1460160A1] An industrial sewing machine has a thread tensioning assembly that can be operated either in control mode or regulator mode as required by the operator. The sewing machine (1) has a thread tensioning assembly (32) operated by an electromagnet (34). The electric current running through the electromagnet coil (33) varies in accordance with the rotational speed of the armature shaft, in accordance with a predetermined graph curve of thread tension plotted against rotation. The change in current prevents the formation of a knot formed by the upper and lower threads between the two work pieces. Selection of regulation mode or control mode is made by the operator via a suitable selector switch (50). The push button selector switch is linked to a microprocessor with a memory device and mode indicator (51) that further indicates thread tension.
