[origin: EP1462654A1] The gearwheel pump (1) has meshing gears (2,3) in a figure-of-eight-shaped housing (4). A first shaft (5) acts as a drive shaft. The adjacent end of the second shaft has a sealing disk (6) fitting into a shallow cylindrical depression in the end of the housing. The pump has an end plate (4a) held in place by screws (16). The gearwheel teeth (11) form working chambers moving the oil from the low-pressure to the high-pressure side of the pump. Oil flows through a pressure gallery (21) to a pressure chamber (19) with a piston (17) which presses the second shaft against a spring (28). A narrow pressure relief gap (10) opens between the gearwheel and the end plate.
